Habitat Restoration & Enhancement

Among the most rewarding activities involve restoring or enhancing habitats for fish and wildlife at the site, stand or landscape level. Fish habitat restoration and enhancement is commonly required to offset construction related footprint effects and maintain compliance with the Federal Fisheries Act and Habitat Policy. Understanding species habitat preferences, site potential, constraints and risks is important in designing works that will be effective and remain stable under natural conditions. We are experienced in the design and construction of compensation projects as well as determining habitat equivalencies and developing quantitative monitoring programs.

Key services include:

  • Streambank stabilization
  • Fish passage restoration
  • Slope stabilization

  • Groundwater fed channel construction/enhancement
  • Stream channel design (spawning, rearing, overwintering)
  • Instream enhancements (large woody debris structures, groynes, boulder features)
