Rolling out the Aquadams!
Deploying a 250 foot length of Aqua Dam (2 sections 100' + 150') to divert river flows is no easy task.
Filled with water an Aquadam requires technique and careful management during deployment, use, and eventual dismantling.
Imagine a massive bouncy house-like structure filled with water, with the ability to take off and roll! #expertise
The culmination of a multi-year project Cornice has been involved with, all hands were on deck to achieve the plan we created unfold.
While the historic channel was being reactivated, these dams were used to divert flows – maintaining fish passage during construction.
Result?
✅A low impact diversion method within a sensitive ecosystem.
✅Reduced future impact to those ecosystems, sensitive fish species, and infrastructure critical to our economy.
Definitely hits the Top 5 of Cornice projects this year!

Happy World Environment Day!
The 2020 theme is Time for Nature.
.
🍃
And in this time of a pandemic, Nature has shown us what just even a little time can do for it and for us. #resilience
.
🍃
We have also been shown that Nature is around every corner of our lives.
.
🍃
That time is a matter of priorities, perspective and perseverance.
That “getting into Nature” is as simple as a walk in our backyards and streets.
.
🍃
This World Environment Day we are reminded that Nature is everywhere if we will just take the Time. #everyeactcounts
.
🍃
How will you spend even a little Time with and for Nature today?
Enjoy!

Hey there! Whew it has been a few minutes since I dropped in here. It’s been what I call a, Full Dance Card.
Brief intro, my name is Robyn, born and raised BC-girl and one half of the founding team of Cornice. 21 years ago I began my career as a very eager fish and wildlife biologist with Big Plans to have an adventurous career of hiking, exploring, fishing, and happily mucking about in wetlands.
I don’t recall ‘leading a company through the challenges of a pandemic’ ever crossing my mind as a thing I might put on the list of Career Possibilities.
Yet here we are. So many of us are here.
Through my career dedicated to the love of field biology I worked for start ups requiring each of us to chip in on the admin after lpng field trips. I had zero money yet always found a way; lived out of my truck (happily). I worked for and consulted to multi million-dollar corporations where it can be a challenge to have the environmental voice heard. Yet found it was possible if one can speak in the local language. I have been utterly lost in the wilderness.. Through my experience I have come to deeply value:
RESPECT [of the unique skills of others].
COMMITMENT [to the work].
INNOVATION [always be growing].
COLLABORATION[as a means to achieve the greatest impact]. I believe as biologists (or ‘ologists of any kind) we are a naturally scrappy, dedicated and innovative bunch. For the natural resource sector is not the most conventionally road mapped career path out there. Each day we are following our nose and our Why for what we do.
Like breadcrumbs, each of us have gathered valuable experience through our careers - regardless of the length.
While COVID-19 has brought upon us a very challenging and gut-wrenching time – it has also presented a kind of ‘Career Opportunity.’
For we are the kind that can support and innovate, rely on our individual and team level skills, come together to support each other and ensure our mutual success.
We are natural survivors. And given all we have experienced before this, we certainly will survive this one.
Respect. Commitment. Innovation. Collaboration. ...
